ボイド Study — Privacy Policy

What data ボイド Study stores

All data is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export a backup file. It includes:

• Flashcard content you create and SRS review history
• Japanese text and translations you capture from YouTube and Netflix
• Your settings and preferences
• ボイド Quest RPG progress (zones, kanji collected, equipment)
• Toy Desk inventory and coin balance

Network requests

ボイド Study makes network requests only in these specific cases:

• Kanji lookup: When you look up a kanji character, the character is sent to kanjiapi.dev — a free public API — to retrieve stroke count, readings, and meaning. No personal data is included in this request.
• AI explanations (optional): If you enter your own Anthropic API key in Settings, the Japanese text you request an explanation for is sent directly from your browser to Anthropic's API (api.anthropic.com). This request goes directly to Anthropic — it does not pass through any ボイド Study servers. Your API key is stored locally and never transmitted to us. See Anthropic's privacy policy for how they handle API requests.

ボイド Study has no servers, no analytics, no tracking scripts, and no advertising. No requests are made to any ボイド Study–controlled infrastructure.

YouTube and Netflix

When you visit YouTube or Netflix, ボイド Study injects a small toolbar and sidebar that let you save subtitle text as flashcards. The extension reads subtitle text that is already displayed on your screen. It does not:

• Record, download, or redistribute any video or audio content
• Access your YouTube or Netflix account credentials
• Transmit any page content to external servers
• Track your viewing history

Text you choose to save is stored locally on your device only.

Permissions explained

• storage — to save your flashcards, settings, and progress locally
• activeTab — to interact with the current tab when you use context menu features
• contextMenus — to add a right-click option to look up selected Japanese text
• tabs — to send messages between the extension popup and content scripts
• windows — to open the extension in a dedicated window and the kana pop-out reference

Data you export

The backup feature lets you download all your data as a JSON file to your local device. This file is entirely under your control. ボイド Study does not receive a copy of it.

Children

ボイド Study is a language learning tool suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect information from children, and since no data leaves the device, none is collected from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way (for example, if a future version adds optional cloud sync), the update date at the top of this page will change and users will be notified through the extension's changelog.
